We had a free afternoon so WB2 and I headed down to the
library for a session of English story telling. Upon reaching, we found that it
was a special event for that day. Not only was there story telling, it also
includes a craft session for the kids. WB3 was very excited to be there with
other kids.
The first story that was told was about this man selling
hats. He carried many hats on this head to sell. One day, while he was resting
under a tree, his hats were all taken away by mischievous monkeys! And then the
story goes on to tell about how he tries to get his hats back from the monkeys.
At the end of the story, the kids were led to the nearby
workstations to create their very own hats. Younger kids like WB2 were given a
pre-made cut out hat, and ‘accessories’ were provided to decorate the hat.

Once his hat is completed, the ‘teacher’ (facilitator) is
there to make the final touches to the hat, ready for wear.

patiently while teacher makes the final adjustments for his hat.
After all the children had their hats, there was still time
for another story. And it was a story we are all familiar with. ‘The very
hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle.

It was overall an enjoyable session for WB2, listening to stories, with some activities as well as interaction with other children. The crowd of children was also just nice, not too big (too messy and difficult) and not to small (no fun!). We'll see if we get to do something similar again!
