The Toy Library @ Pasir Ris Elias CC

The little bees were buzzing around with nothing much to do at home so we thought we’ll bring them to the newly opened Toy Library at Pasir Ris Elias CC.

We had a bit of difficulty finding the place at first, as the place is listed as “activity Room 1” instead of “Toy Library” in the directory. We were the only family there, and the boys were a little overwhelmed with the array of toys in front of them.
WB3 was busy trying to walk around

WB2 found some trains to occupy himself with
One corner of the playroom, with board games on the shelves, playmats and posters

After some time, when they’re sufficiently “warmed up”, all hell breaks loose. There were 2 staff tending to the place and they have been very patient to the boys.

This place is recommended for young children. Admission is free and it’s air-con, ideal get-away from the hot sun outside. Before entering, hand sanitizer is provided for our use and footwear is also removed. There is also a log book for us to log in our visit.

The place opens daily from Mon to Sun, 10am – 9pm.
Venue: Pasir Ris Elias Community Center, Level 2, activity Room 1.
Admission is free!

Car-Free Sunday SG

It’s the weekend again and the busy Bees are out looking for some fun. Being the last Sunday of the month, we headed down to Empress Lawn at VCH for the Car-Free Sunday SG.

On our way, WB3 being his cute self and I just couldn’t resist but to give him a poke!

There, we met up with Nila.

There were some fringe activities for the kids, including water coloring postcards, paper craft and plates balancing.

We got ourselves a postcard (only allowed to take 1!). WB2 choose for himself, one that depicts the VCH itself. I tried to tell him that the picture is the same as the actual building in front of us. “Same same” I said to him. And I got him to read from the card, “Victoria concert hall”.

It was nearing noon and it starts to get a little warm. I asked the WB2 if he wants to go inside the building instead. He thought for a moment and told me, “inside”. Ah.. so we adjourn indoors, into VCH. And what we found was a mini Mozart concert waiting for us. How delightful!

"Tada!", says the violinist from the 2nd storey

The performance plays Mozart, with segment including voice.
And also a duet.

What’s interesting about this duet is that both parties are playing from the same sheet of music score but from opposite ends of the table! This type of playing is known as table music.

Taking a look at their score

Meanwhile, in the comfort of the building, WB2 is back to his energized self (he was getting a little lethargic just now out in the open). It took me a while to convince him to sit down quietly to listen to the music.

He has rejected the seat beside me on the bench, preferring the floor instead.
Just saw the news that Car-Free Sunday will be back only in Oct. So it'll be a while before we do this again. Meanwhile, watch this space for more adventures of the Bees Family.

Dads for Life - Dads day out

Last weekend was father's day and the Bees family has registered for Dad's Day out hosted by Dads for Life and Mediacorp. We were there early, lured by the prospect of the free breakfast set for the first 300 dads..

Long Queue for the Free Breakfast set

And they say the "early birds get the worms".. Well, I'll say the "Early Bees gets the Breakfast". Here's a peep of what is the free breakfast:

Vegetable Sandwich and an Apple

Thanks for the thoughtful organizers, drinking stations were also located at the events.

Cold Water to hydrate the participants

The first station we went to was the face painting.

Face Painting with Dad

Actually you can paint on any part of your body as well, which is what the Bees did..

"Power Bees".. Showing off our blue heart crest

There were many activities going on. Such as guest appearance by Mediacorp stars:

We managed to complete the minimum 2 activities which entitles us to the goodie bag. In it was some milo which WB2 happily helped himself to.

"That's something I want but this Milo is important too..."

Overall it was pretty fun, but the little bees were still too little to participate in most of the activities. But at least they had fun with the painting and of course, the milo!

S.E.A Aquarium

Over the weekend, the bee family ventured into the sea. The S.E.A Aquarium. We were there as early as we could, in order to beat the June Holidays crowd. Tickets were purchased over the counter ($28 for the adult). Since the 2 little bees were below 4, admission was free for them. This is the first time the little bees have been to an aquarium and prior to the visit, QB has briefed them umpteen times on what an aquarium is and what to expect.   This includes a starfish:
Star? Starfish!

There’s sea cucumber too, which I didn’t expect so didn’t get to tell them before hand. This particular species doesn’t look too edible though. Thankfully. =p

Told WB2, there’s grass on land, and in the water, there’s seaweed..

At the entrance of the aquarium, there’s the walk-through in the tunnel of fishes. Here’s the boys in the tunnel:

WB2: Fish!
WB3: .. (spellbound)

Here’s WB3 looking at the shark

WB3: hello sharkie.. wakey wakey...

WB2: one little fish..two little fish.. three little fish.. four little fish...

Overall we spent about 2 hours there. There’s seats readily available, good if you’re with elderly or just tired from walking. Toilet is not too difficult to find. It's not a very big place after all.
Nursing room is outside the actual aquarium. But not too far off. It has only 1 room though, with door and electrical point. Outside of it is the diaper changing area, with hand wash. No hot/cold water point though.
